Multiple partners, Wayne County Dept. of Public Services
A grant funded collaboration between Wayne County, Friends of the Rouge, Friends of the Detroit River and others to establish and begin implementing an effective, efficient and environmentally sound program of integrated pest management for invasive species across the Rouge River and Detroit River Areas of Concern. Friends of the Rouge is overseeing efforts in the watershed to utilize volunteers through Rouge Rescue, an annual river cleanup and stewardship event, as well as youth in the Student Conservation Association (SCA) to conduct pre-surveys, remove invasive species and conduct post-surveys. Other partners are using contractors to conduct the work.
Friends of the Rouge staff and volunteers:performed 135 invasive control exercises in total, 52 in 2015 and 83 in the 2016 field season. This work included monitoring for invasive species in target areas, conducting invasive plant removal projects, photo monitoring, and documenting the work completed.
