CSA Workshops

College Student Assistant Orientation

February 25th, 2009

Time: TBA

Location: TBA

An orientation to what becoming a CSA really means. We go over what a CSA is required to learn, how much time it will take and the benefits to participating with the REP. We also take time to answer CSA questions and discuss how you will be placed with a school. This is a required meeting for NEW CSA's, if you are a returning CSA you do not have to attend.

Chemical Training: LaMotte & Hach Water Quality Training-REQUIRED for CSA's

Saturday, April 4, 2009
8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m., registration and light breakfast 8:00-8:30 a.m., lunch also provided
Location: Dunckel Middle School- Directions will be sent out.
Registration: Free for CSA's!

This hands-on workshop covers all the water quality monitoring tests that schools will conduct on their field trip to the Rouge River on Monitoring Day.  Participants will learn how to conduct chemical tests using LaMotte/Hach test kits, conduct a physical stream survey, and complete a biological assessment of benthic macroinvertebrates (such as aquatic insects).  This workshop is a great refresher for returning teachers in the project, and it counts to certify your school’s data if you participated in the project last year but your school was not certified.
